The Wright Women

Over 100 women (architects, designers and artisans) were employed by Frank Lloyd Wright studio. In an era when women were not visible in the field of architecture and design, Wright’s first recorded employees were both women erroneously assumed as bookkepers rather than as collaborators on his art and design.
“A Girl is A Fellow Here” is a succint quote from Wright regarding his hiring practices of women in studio, as craftspersons, cement layers and metal workers. The quote is also the title of documentary celebrating the women from this legacy.
